Cancer: Our Era Disease

The Purple Society

It really pains my heart when I hear about cancer and how it became our all times spreading disease. Cancer rates are increasing globally and there is no medicine discovered until now that can completely 100% cure cancer. Cancer is an abnormal growth of cells; there are more than 100 types of cancer, including breast cancer, skin cancer, lung cancer, colon cancer, prostate cancer, and leukemia. Symptoms vary depending on the type. Cancer patients are hardly pushed for treatment either with chemotherapy, radiation, and/or surgery.

I was completely shocked when I heard my mum telling me this bad news, one of my close relative who is almost in his last year of graduation got cancer! I was like seeing the world suddenly a very dark place… Cancer! I used to hear old people getting cancer all the time, but when a teenager gets it that’s what scared me the most.

Cancer is not only a painful disease to the patient; it’s for the people surrounding that patient also, the mother, the father and the rest of the family that suffers seeing their beloved ones in pain all the time.

Many researches detected the causes of cancer, many reasons were found related to the cause but then they all turned out not so definite!

When I was having my regular check up with my gynecologist, I popped the question, what causes cancer? From where did it come? How could we prevent cancer? He honestly told me that there is no reason behind cancer, it may include genetic factors; lifestyle factors such as tobacco use, diet, and physical activity; certain types of infections; and environmental exposures to different types of chemicals and radiation, but the right combination of foods may help improve a difference.

He then explained how cancer grows in the body in a simple way for me to get. He started by showing me some charts of the human cells and how they are composed in our body, then as we all know normal cells in the body follow an orderly path of growth, division, and death. The cancer cells are the cells that uncontrollably grow and do not die. Our body is programmed that when cells get old they die, and when this process breaks down, cancer begins to form and instead continue to grow and divide.

A very painful truth, Cancer cannot be prevented, how could you control your won cells and make sure they are well planned to automatically kill old cells instead of making them grow and spread to cancer!

I used to struggle with the fact that my mum believed certain foods and life routine may prevent/cause cancer. No single food can prevent the body from getting cancer. Basically all kinds of green leaf food are rich with vitamins and very healthy for the body, it helps us keep up the balance we need during our daily busy schedule and helps building the body stronger to face all kinds of diseases, but instead they cannot be consumed or categorized as preventers of cancer.

Although I’m truly against specifying a single cause for cancer, but I do believe that some bodies are ready for cancer, they can easily rush to getting to earlier stages if they follow unhealthy habits in their lives, such as; smoking, excessively eating fast food that has transmitted fats, late stages of depression, etc…

We need always to make sure we can lower the risk of getting cancer by taking care of our body. Exercising is very important, having the perfect weight, improving our diet and putting some exciting programs during our day can also do the job.

We don’t need to worry ourselves, although the risks of cancer and the statistics show an increased number of patients everyday but we need to have hope, we always need to hope that someday scientists will find a cure for cancer and it will normally be healed like any other disease. We just need to pray that day may come.
